Masaryk University is the second largest university in the Czech Republic, founded in 1919 in Brno as the second Czech university. There are about 30 000 students studying at 10 faculties. Teiresiás Centre was established by Masaryk University in 2000 in order to grant access to study programmes accredited at the university to students who are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hearing impaired, mobility impaired or have any other disability. Since its establishment in 2000, the centre has been a leading organisation in creation of universally designed learning environment and practice at the university level in the Czech Republic. Being one of the first institutions able to accept students with all kinds of disabilities made Masaryk University the biggest educator of disabled students in the country (30% of all disabled university students in the Czech Republic).
